I held off on this because I was hoping all would end well. So far, it hasn’t. 😦

Social and auto/moto media have been abuzz since Wednesday, when auto journalist Davey G. Johnson went missing. He had crossed Sonora Pass, which is north of Mammoth Mountain in California’s Sierra Nevada; his mobile phone had last been pinged at 8:00 PDT on that day.

Johnson was riding a Honda CB1000R as part of an assignment from Car and Driver. The bike was found, on its sidestand and undamaged, at Big Bar River Access on the North Fork of Mokelumne River off CA 49; His backpack, clothing and mobile phone were also found approximately 50 feet away; his wallet was later found in a pants pocket.

An intensive search of the area is being coordinated by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone who’s seen him or has knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact CCSD at +1 209.754.6500.

Update: The Calaveras County Sheriff’s department recovered Johnson’s body Thursday. Foul play is not suspected. At this time it is requested that the privacy of his family and his friends be respected. Memorial arrangements are being made and will be announced at a later date.
