Amerivespa 2016: Photo extra

Maverick goes camping

Like Jaylin, many Amerivespa participants opted for camping (Jaylin Billig photo)

As you might imagine, a lot of photography happens at Amerivespa. #AVMemphis16 is no exception. A photographic feast awaits, after the jump.

Amerivespa kicked off Thursday night with a meet & greet, followed by Scooters on Beale, in Memphis’ Beale Street Entertainment District.

Some estimates put the number of scoots at over 800 (registered participants numbered 580, give or take). Anyway, it was a lot.

Did I mention there were a lot of scooters?

There weren’t just Vespas; a lot of different kinds of sccooters were represented, too.

Of course there were vintage scooters.

These folks rode to Memphis together. From MEXICO.

Jaylin went on the Historic Ride on Saturday. She and Maverick are in front of Clarence Saunders’ Pink Palace.

Jaylin is a badass.

Had I been able to attend, the thing in Memphis I wanted to see most was the Lorraine Motel.

The Lorraine is (in)famous as the place where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The wreath marks the spot where he stood when the fatal shot was fired.

The Lorraine is now home to the National Civil Rights Museum. I do plan to visit, one day soon.

There’s so much more to come. The awards banquet, for one. Stay tuned.
