Time to pounce
Have you noticed what’s happening to the price of gasoline (or if you prefer, petrol)? It’s been going down… like a rock.
In fact, prices at the pump haven’t been this low in almost four years. The station pictured is actually on the high side for Bellingham, price-wise—regular is available for less than three bucks from several stations.
Right now would be a great time to buy a scooter. Really? Oh, yes.
In many places, the so-called riding season has come to an end, but weather in my neck of the woods has been unseasonably warm, and looks to remain so for a while yet.
More importantly, Americans’ notoriously short memories have contributed to sales of SUVs and crossovers rising even faster than the new-car market generally. This is also true in most international markets.
Most scooter dealers will tell you their business rises and falls in direct proportion to prices at the pump. Add the change of season, and you have a scooter dealer’s perfect storm. Which for a scooter buyer is a rare alignment of the planets.
If you’ve been thinking of getting a scooter (or upgrading the one you have), there’s no time like the present. Wheel and deal! If the weather’s frightful, maybe you can talk your dealer into storing your new bike free (lots of dealers in harsh climes are doing this). Or maybe you can get some foul-weather riding apparel cheap, if not free. It never hurts to ask.
You’ll be ready for the next price spike, too.
