May Day, May Day

May Day was last weekend. And while there could well have been a celebration of International Worker’s Day in Eugene, Oregon, the focus here is on scooter events like Top Dead Center SC’s May Day Scoot. I wasn’t there, but Jackie, Randy and Cathy were; Jackie took some pix, which you’ll see following the jump.

TDC SC patch

This being an even-numbered year, TDC SC hosted a rally in town; in odd-numbered years, it’s a run to the Oregon Coast.

The weather looked great. Eugene TV station KVAL reported there were over 40 scooters in the rally, the majority of which were old-skool Vespas and Lambrettas. Of course, TDC SC welcomes all kinds of 2-wheeled conveyances.

Moped

A good deal of attention was focused on the Gymkhana, which included a Limbo bar.

Limbo bar

Besides the gymkhana, Saturday featured a long, fast ride to the town of Dexter, another fast run on a local logging road, and still another fast run to the afternoon BBQ.

Pit stop

The group had apparently missed a turn and stopped in a parking lot to get re-oriented. MJ had noticed her scooter was wobbling in the turns, so they laid it in the grass to have a look. Turned out three rear lug nuts were missing, and the two remaining ones were loose. She and Yoni had ridden from Portland on Friday, so her scoot had certainly been ridden hard.

Lights

Did I mention there were several nice bikes in the group? There were. Jackie took several more pictures, which you can see here. Favicon

wow 3 lug nuts missing is crazy!!! Shouldn’t a walkaround inspection be first priority? unless all three fell off on the trip

I used to own a race car, and there was a checklist of things to look at, tighten, etc. before the car went on the track. I always did the same with the PX prior to a long ride or rally, even though every nut and bolt had a lock washer…

I have started using nylock nuts. kinda pricey, but a lot more peace of mind.
