Amerivespa 2011: Day 1
Amerivespa 2011 kicked off Thursday, and (*sigh*) once again I am here, instead of there. But once again, our man on the scene Lorenzo offers the first of his daily reports:
It’s HOT! Riding from Beaumont Wednesday, I saw 105°F on my MP3’s dashboard, and it was almost as warm on today’s first group ride.
The riders left NOLA early for a long, fast ride to Moto Rouge in Baton Rouge, La. It was a technical route, with lots of curves… people rode well, but it was taxing in the heat and humidity. People were trying everything to stay cool, some sporting ice-filled vests and others wearing these sausage-like things soaked in cold water around their necks.
Following lunch and a mini-raffle at Moto Rouge, the group headed back to New Orleans. Some riders hopped onto I-10, which being a straight shot was an easier ride.
The meet & greet was held at The Transportation Revolution, NOLA’s dealer for Vespa, Piaggio, Triumph and Ducati. I saw lots of familiar faces, many from Amerivespa 2007 in Seattle. Friday will be a very busy day. _Lorenzo
