Vegas 2010 patch

Scooters of Bellingham’s Vegas crew is back in the ‘Ham. Tom Smith has all the details, after the jump.

The S.O.B.’s attending the Las Vegas “High Rollers Weekend”: Rob, Rochelle, Jeff R, Mary, Fred, Sandy, Coll, Sheila, Tom, and Larry. Here’s our rally experience. At least what I can remember, or want to expose…

High Rollers kicked off Thursday with a meet ‘n greet in a reserved parking lot behind the Golden Gate Hotel/Casino. The First ride was an inner city trip on the infamous Strip, stopping at the Paradise Cantina for food and drink. Sheila, Coll and I arrived in sin city that evening and hooked up with the group at Foxy’s in the Vegas Club Casino for Gong Show Karaoke. The local talent was strong; the S.O.B.’s opted out of singing, but had a great time in the audience.

Friday morning our club met up for breakfast, and decided to take a ride on our own, due to a wet weather forecast for Saturday’s ride. We made our way out of Vegas and out to Hoover Dam, with a great lunch break at Lake Las Vegas. The weather was cool but dry, the road conditions next to perfect with some good curves near the dam. Made it back to Vegas by 5:00pm to purchase our Rally Packs and check out the vendors set up behind the Golden Gate. That evening I think we all did our own thing and opted out of the back-alley party behind the Beauty Bar.

Saturday morning the weather was overcast and spitting some rain. We gathered for the Show ‘n Shine behind the Golden Gate to check out the cool scoots. Vegas has many old-skool Vespas, everything from chopper style to crotch rocket, mods, and cherry originals were all there. After checking out the scoots and vendors we split into groups and did our own thing. Coll, Sheila and I did the Strip, starting at one end and finishing on the other, about a 4-mile hike. Great fun seeing some of the grand casinos and awesome shopping.

We gathered at 5:00 pm over at Jeff and Mary’s camper for some appetizers and wine. Mary went all out and made a birthday cake for me, a truly original four layer—delicious! Jeff R was tending the BBQ and we had quite the spread and a good time together. The evening party kicked off at 10:00pm in the Copa Room of the Plaza Hotel. Very old-skool setting and a lot of polyester-wearing scooterists complete with patent-leather white shoes. The 10-piece band started just after midnight, and by 12:30 the room was so smoke-filled our group bailed out.

Sunday morning was scooter loading for all except Larry. Here’s his report from the Sunday ride:

Nice ride. Not sure how many scooters because two thirds either got lost along the way or took a different way. I was in the front group of about 60 scoots. Red Rock Canyon was a beautiful 13-mile loop. People split up and did their own thing once we got inside the park. The temp dropped but it was still a beautiful ride. I rode to Kingman, Ariz.
