Calligram (n.): A poem, phrase, or word in which the typeface, calligraphy or handwriting is arranged in a way that creates a visual image. The image created by the words expesses visually what the word(s) say.

The Butterfly of Panama is not only a gifted painter, she does calligrams, too. Calligrams are becoming a lost art, as calligraphy gives way to computer-generated letters and numbers.

You’re sure to find reading it as enjoyable as looking at it. Best of all, you can get your very own signed print from the Butterfly’s Etsy site. It comes in your choice of a black or cream matte, ready to frame.

You may be familiar with her previous scooter calligram; that one is being retired. Hope you got a print when you had the chance. Favicon

Hey, Orin, great of you to post this on your blog. I’m certain the Butterfly will appreciate the added exposure! She does do nice work, no?

    Dear Orin:

I got a calligram friom Western Union yesterday. It was in the shape of a striking cobra and let me know that a former wife was looking for me.

It is so cool to see things done by hand, still. These days it’s so easy to install a computer program and let it do the work. Thanks for sharing!
