Not so tired

Continental Zippy 1

It’s been about a month since the PX got its new shoes, so I thought you might be interested in a progress report.

The PX definitely rides better; the bumps are much less bumpy, it’s more stable in corners, and the Zippy 1s definitely have more grip on wet surfaces, especially surfaces that are worn out, with protruding gravel that’s been polished smooth.

But that would be true of any new tire. The rubber is fresh and pliable, and the tread is still a half-circular arc between the sidewalls.

There is, however, one huge difference from the S83s that is impossible not to notice: the complete, total, utter lack of bridge grate nibble. The drawspans of the bridges on the Lake Washington Ship Canal may as well be paved; the PX’s path is straight and true, utterly unaffected by the texture of the grated surfaces. That alone will make up for any shortcomings that might occur as the tires accumulate miles.

Continental offers Zippy1s in sizes to fit GTs and GTSs. Favicon

Nice review, I’ve been considering switching to Zippy1s for my first tire change. I’ve used Continental tires for years on my racing bicycles and they’ve always been top-notch tires.
