Yeah, you’re probably still trying to deal with Holiday Season 2008, never mind scooter events in 2009. But two things deserve mention now.
Scootering’s version of Sturgis, the High Rollers Weekend in Las Vegas, celebrates its 10th anniversary in ‘09. Traditionally held President’s Day weekend, the event has been moved to March 19-23 to take advantage of better weather and scheduling that would allow folks to travel from Vegas to San Diego, and from there to Top Dead Center SC’s Rides of March, which will be held in and around Eugene, Ore.
This year’s event marks another milestone: this will be the last year the Brits will attend as an organized group. The organizers say they’re pulling out all the stops to make this the best Vegas rally ever. And who knows, you could get lucky in one of the casinos and cover the cost of your trip!
Another annual event changing dates is Ride to Work Day. It was previously held on the third Wednesday in July; now you are encouraged to ride your motorcycle or scooter to work on the third Monday in June. Notice it’s now “Motorcycle and Scooter” Ride to Work Day.
Ride to Work’s Web site says weather was also a motivating factor for the change of month, while making Ride to Work Day a Monday would not only encourage Ride to Work Week if one were so inclined, a Monday event could potentially get more attention from the news media on Sunday, which is usually a rather slow news day.
Mark your calendars. Just like the holidays, these things will sneak up on you…
